Jonathan Tang
While on a working holiday in New Zealand, Jonathan Tang decided that the demand for CAD specialists was too good an opportunity to miss out on. He already had a degree, so he enrolled for a Graduate Diploma in Computer Aided Design at Ara.
“I chose Ara because you get hands-on skills that you can quickly apply in the workplace,” he says.
The emphasis on hands-on learning is something Jonathan is really enjoying. He feels it will be very beneficial once he graduates. “The projects I’m doing show that I have the knowledge and skills needed in a design office. Having that experience can be very convincing to prospective employers.”
One of the projects he’s been working on is a residential house construction, from the foundations through to the laying of the carpet. “I study the theory in class and learn the skills in the field.”
In addition to his tutors, who he says teach in an intuitive and helpful way, Jonathan has also received support in other areas, such as career planning. “The Careers Centre at Ara have given me lots of suggestions and helped me make an impressive CV.”
Illustrating how broadly CAD can be applied, one of Jonathan’s goals is to get into electronic music production. “That definitely benefits from CAD.”
