To enable students to experience and evaluate what it means to be a professional kaiako within the context of Early Childhood education in Aotearoa New Zealand including demonstrating their commitment to te reo Māori and tikanga Māori.

Description

Demonstrate knowledge and skills of a beginning kaiako in early childhood education in Aotearoa New Zealand, including reflective practice and a commitment to te reo Māori and tikanga Māori.

Apply knowledge of the regulatory, ethical, and professional requirements of the early childhood kaiako.

Describe and apply strategies for building and maintaining effective professional relationships with adults and children in early childhood environments emphasising whanaungatanga, and manaakitanga.

Apply knowledge of health and safety perspectives including Māori and other cultural perspectives and their impact on early childhood practices.

Implement teaching strategies to support the development and learning of tamariki including the use of tuakana-teina and ako.
