To enable Registered Nurses to further develop their knowledge and skills in comprehensive assessment of children's health status and to integrate their knowledge of normal processes and pathophysiology to nursing practice in the community.

Description

Use a systematic approach to health assessment of a child and their family/whānau that integrates knowledge of child development.

Utilise a structured framework to verbally report and document information accurately from the history and examination, critically analysing the role of the nurse.

Maximise child and family/whānau outcomes through provision of evidence-based care and teaching regarding common health conditions and issues.

Reflect on where and when to refer a child and family/whānau with a specific health need, in order to promote growth and development.
