Motor Industry Trades

The automotive industry is one of the largest in the world, offering a wide range of careers for motivated problem solvers with a can-do attitude and practical skills.

The demand for skills in this industry is set to increase as components, vehicles and machinery are needed to support the industry and infrastructure development in our region. Because of the advanced designs and high tech components used in modern vehicles, people in the industry require good knowledge, skill and practical experience.

At Ara, we have offered education in the automotive field for over 30 years, and our motor industry training programmes fall into three main groups:

Auto Electrical: This focuses on the electro/mechatronic components in the automotive industry. There is an increasing reliance on this area with the sophistication of environmentally friendly engine systems in new vehicles.

Automotive Engineering: This focuses on maintaining the mechanical components of a motor vehicle. People in the automotive trades are mechanics that fix and service items such as cars, trucks, powerboats and small engines.

Auto Body (collision repair and finishing): This focuses on the bodywork including plastic parts and the paint finish. It includes: repair of collision damage to the motor body, restoration of vintage and classic motor bodies and painting of all forms of motor bodies.

We train you to succeed in collision repair, automotive refinishing and automotive engineering (mechanical or electrical), with the critical skills suited to solving a range of complex problems. We set up work experience, assist with apprenticeship opportunities and make sure your learning is up-to-date from the minute you first set foot in your employer's door.

Our staff have specific teaching materials and equipment to help you become proficient in the skills expected by the industry. Many of our expert tutors started their own training here and have an understanding of the value that quality training plays in your career development. They have years of professional experience in their area of specialisation, and teach you to develop a can-do attitude making the most of the opportunities that come your way. You will graduate with practical, industry-endorsed skills to help get you started in the workplace and often our tutors' contacts with local motor industry leaders, help you to access the best jobs.

Many Ara trades programmes include an apprenticeship. You can find out more here.
